The rumours surrounding a possible Jake Guentzel trade have been swirling for months now, and with the Penguins officially out of the playoff race, it appears as though trading him is now the best option.
Jake Guentzel drawing interest from upwards of six teams
According to reports, Jake Guentzel is drawing interest from upwards of six teams ahead of the Friday trade deadline, with the Vancouver Canucks and Vegas Golden Knights seemingly emerging as the two favourites.
The sense is the Penguins after that road trip have a very clear sense of what needs to be done before Friday's deadline. And charting a course accordingly. Exploring all options with view to bolster the club for the future. Hearing there's 6-plus legit suitors for Guentzel, VGK and VAN among them.
With both teams set for a deep playoff run in 2023-24, adding a legitimate top-line winger like Guentzel could make them arguably the Stanley Cup favourite this season.
Who else is in the hunt for Jake Guentzel?
Other teams such as the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers are also in play for Guentzel, but seeing the cap space that Vegas have freed up and the moves that Vancouver have already made, it's hard to see many teams out-bidding them in the coming days.
Guentzel himself is dealing with a major injury right now ahead of the trade deadline, but with him expecting to return to full health in the coming weeks, he may ultimately be the difference to a team that's a solid contender to ultimately become a Stanley Cup favourite.
