General Manager Doug Armstrong made the announcement earlier today about Krug, stating that a significant surgery will force him to miss the upcoming season.
Per NHL.com:
Krug, who's been an important member of the Blues' defensive unit for the past four seasons, will be a tough loss for the organization. However, with the acquisition of Philip Broberg from the Edmonton Oilers, they seem to have an interesting option in place to take on Krug's workload.
His offensive contributions will likely be missed in St. Louis. In the 2023-24 season, the 33-year-old veteran scored 39 points. Over his career, he played 778 NHL games for the Blues and the Boston Bruins, tallying 483 points, including 89 goals.
It will still be interesting to see if the Blues decide to add depth to the blue line with another acquisition before or during the season.
Meanwhile, Daily Faceoff believes these are the defensive pairings we will see in St. Louis next season:
According to Puck Pedia, the Blues still have $2,217,792 of available cap space. If they add Krug to the Long Term Injury Reserve, they could free up even more money to complete trades before the deadline, if they position themselves as buyers ahead of the 2025 NHL playoffs.
