After 18 seasons and just under 800 games played, Ryan Miller is returning to the NHL.
Miller has been hired by the San Jose Sharks as a goalie scout as well as working in goaltending development. Former Sabres teammate Thomas Vanek is joining him, hired by the Sharks as an amateur scout in the Minnesota region.
This news comes as two of five new additions announced by Sharks GM Mike Grier to the team's hockey operations staff, the other three being Jack Anderson (assistant strength and conditioning coach), Jaren Burke (amateur scout for Ontario), and Igor Eronko (amateur scout for Russia).
Known mostly for his time with the Buffalo Sabres (though also with the Blues, Canucks and Ducks), Ryan Miller was one of the best and most consistent goalies of his generation. The Michigan native posted 391 wins in his 18-year career, with a .914 save percentage and 2.64 GAA. He'll be working in San Jose under fellow former NHL goaltender, Evgeni Nabokov, who serves as the Sharks' Director of Goaltending.
