Last season was a rollercoaster for Shane Wright. The one whom many considered the top choice to be selected as the first overall pick ended up playing in the OHL most of the season.
Now, at 19, the Kraken will need to decide if Wright is ready for the NHL, the AHL, or should go back to the OHL.
Seattle's GM, Ron Francis, apparently already has a plan drawn up for Wright.
Because of the deal between the NHL and the CHL, the Canadian Hockey League, if Wright doesn't make the Kraken's lineup, he won't be eligible to play in the AHL and will need to be sent back to the OHL.
However, Francis revealed that the Kraken will ask for an exemption if he doesn't make the NHL this year.
They want him to be allowed to develop in the AHL.
If the Kraken ask for an exemption and get it, it would be historic, as it has never
happened before.
