Seattle Kraken Make A Major Move Involving 2022 4th Overall Pick Shane Wright
The Seattle Kraken have made a major move by calling up 2022 4th overall pick Shane Wright hinting at him potentially getting another shot in the NHL.
Wright Called Up: Kartye Sent Down
The Seattle Kraken just announced three different roster moves that include 2022 4th overall pick Shane Wright being called up to the NHL.
The #SeaKraken have recalled forward Shane Wright (Coachella Valley) and reassigned forward Tye Kartye (Coachella Valley).
Additionally, the team has placed forward Jaden Schwartz on long-term injured reserve (retroactive to 11/28). So far this year, Wright has scored 9 goals and 16 points in 18 AHL games with the Coachella Valley Firebirds. He has also gotten into three NHL games but has been held pointless. The Kraken determined Wright's development should have him playing minutes so he has been in the AHL despite being able to hold his own at the NHL level.
The Kraken sent down Tye Kartye who has scored 11 points in 30 NHL games so far this year. He has quietly been one of Seattle's better players and is breaking out as a 22-year-old rookie. He was an undrafted free agent who signed with the Kraken.
Insider Provides Clarification On The Moves
Seattle Times writer Geoff Baker offered some insight into the moves the Kraken just made revealing that they may just be paper moves to maximize cap space.
I'm told the #SEAKraken are about to make some roster moves that won't make a whole lot of immediate sense. But they are supposedly just for "salary cap management" purposes and will eventually make sense by later this weekend. So, don't panic when they happen. #NHL
So here are the roster moves for now. Let's see how things pan out heading into Saturday's game. Clearly, Kartye hasn't earned a demotion.
We will now wait and see if the Kraken keep Wright in the NHL or if he is just going to be a causality of a cap transaction.
More details to come.
