Another Major Revelation Has Added to the Officiating Controversy in Toronto
After Game 1 of Toronto's first series, the officiating has already become a topic of officiating. Leafs fans and players weren't too happy with the calls not going their way.
Now, a new controversy has come about regarding the referees. Longtime NHL referee Wes McCauley has been called out for being biased towards teams playing against the Leafs.
The Specifics
David Frost and Mike Danton were involved in a sexual assault scandal, and McCauley and Frost are brothers in-law.
On the other side of the controversy, Keefe and Danton are really good friends and former teammates.
Thus, there are allegations from fans of collusion and bias from Wes McCauley.
The Leafs' record also isn't great in playoff games, though they were undefeated when he officiated their games during the regular season.
It could just be a coincidence, but it could easily be looked at as bias. 8 straight games where Wes McCauley officiates the Leafs, they lose. That's a crazy coincidence if it is one. Officiating isn't everything though, because there are other ways to score even if the luck isn't on your side.
Is there actually something fishy going on? We'll have to see how the rest of the series plays out!
