The Detroit Red Wings have released Goaltender Michael Hutchinson from his Professional Tryout Contract. Hutchinson was signed in mid-September to a PTO along with fellow veteran Artem Anisimov, who was cut from Detroit 2 days ago.
Hutchinson, 33, got 16 NHL games for the Columbus Blue Jackets, with a 2-6-3 record alongside a 4.21GAA and a .877SV%. Prior, Hutchinson spent the start of the 2022-23 season with the Vegas Golden Knights, before being moved to Columbus in the deal that sent Jonathan Quick back the other way.
Prior to last season, Hutchinson made his NHL Debut in 2014 with the Winnipeg Jets, playing parts of 5 seasons with Winnipeg while battling for the long-term starting role with fellow youngster Connor Hellebuyck, before going on to play with Florida, Toronto & Colorado, having made two stints with the Leafs, in which Hutchinson became an underdog favorite to some fans, with some jokingly referring to him as "Clutchinson" both positively and negatively at times.
An experienced veteran now back on the market, Hutchinson has 153 Career NHL Games, with a 57-61-18 record, along with a decent 2.93GAA and .902SV%. Hutchinson was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 3rd Round of the 2008 NHL Draft.
