The Leafs had to pull off some salary cap escapades in order to sign Matthew Knies.
Unfortunately, this meant sending down Joseph Woll, and since the Leafs essentially created their own emergency' situation to bring Woll back up salary-cap free, the league blocked the move.
After being backed up by two university goalies, tonight they will have their hardest challenge yet - backup goalie of the Windsor Spitfires Matt Onuksa.
Onuksa rocked a .868 save percentage in 33 OHL games on the first-seed Windsor Spitfires this season, and he will now get his first, and likely last, taste of NHL play.
Luckily against the Lightning, nothing bad can happen in the standings, since the Leafs have already locked in their home advantage.
Since this is a meaningless game, it makes no sense to start Ilya Samsonov right before the playoffs.
It will still be interesting, however, to see Onuksa face off Andrei Vasilevskiy.
Good luck Matt you're going to need it!
