It hasn't been an easy season for Matt Murray.

After being traded from Ottawa to Toronto last summer, a lot of people thought that playing in front of an elite team could help him get his form back. However, it's not what happened, as he only played 26 games.

Furthermore, he registered a 3.02 goals against average and a .903 save percentage.

So, what's next for him? It's seems like his time with the Maple Leafs is already over...

Maple Leafs are Officially Done with Matt Murray

According to Chris Johnston, Toronto need to unload Murray's contract because of salary cap problems...

"The GM has said his roster issues can't all be fixed in a day, and he's still got plenty of work ahead this summer in concert with master capologist Brandon Pridham. The Leafs currently sit above the NHL's $83.5-million ceiling and are now looking to unload goaltender Matt Murray and his $4.69-million cap hit.

They're on the hunt for trade options, but they have a Plan B in their back pocket if something palatable fails to materialize. Teams that have a player go to salary arbitration gain a second buyout window following the hearing, and it appears likely that goaltender Ilya Samsonov will be taking Toronto to arb later this summer." - Chris Johnston

How Could The Leafs Make it Work?

Maple Leafs GM will have to look to trade Murray to a team that has a lot of cap space. The Arizona Coyotes, the Chicago Blackhawks or the Anaheim Ducks could possibly be interested in Murray.

However, Brad Treliving will not have a lot of power in those negotiations so we could see the Leafs pay a lot for other teams to acquire Murray's contract...
