Brad Treliving's Ideal Trade Target Revealed
With the training camps set to begin in about a month, Brad Treliving still has plenty of time to make moves ahead of next season.
Trade Expected in Toronto
Treliving has many assets for a potential trade. We could very well see either William Nylander, Nick Robertson or Matt Murray being traded.
Trading Nylander would not only free up some cap space but would also bring a significant return to the Leafs.
With a player as valuable as Nylander, one can only wonder what Treliving will be able to get for him.
The perfect target has been revealed.
The Perfect Trade Target
The Maple Leafs could add some reinforcement to their blue line.
Take a look at the Flames' defensive corps last season, the team shaped by Treliving:
"Calgary's top six D during the playoffs last season:
Zadarov, 6"6
Gudbranson, 6"5
Haniffin, 6"3
Tanev, 6"2
Andersson, 6"1
Kylington, 6"0
Conor Timmins is the only Leafs D signed for next season over 6"1. Adding size will likely be the first big change on D Treliving makes." It wouldn't be surprising to see Treliving add some size to the Leafs' defense and who's better to do that than soon-to-be free agent Chris Tanev.
"Wouldn't be my primary target (due to age), but I think if Treliving's going to acquire any of his former Calgary players, Tanev is the most likely of the bunch."
"Christopher Tanev, the king of doing the little things."
Tanev has a year left on his $4.5M AAV contract. At 33 years old, he doesn't have the same impact he had when he was younger, but he's still a great player that does all the good things on the ice.
And we already know he doesn't mind playing in Canada!
"Yeah at least you know he's willing to play in Canada and in a larger market. Even if he's taken a step back, could be a nice replacement for Gio at least."
At 6' 2", 193 lbs, he would be a great player to have in Toronto. His past connection with Treliving could help make this happen, but we can only hope until some official news emerges.
