Carl Dahlstrom leaves the Toronto Maple Leafs organization
Carl Dahlstrom who has been with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization for the past two seasons is heading home to continue his pro career.
After seven seasons in North America, 28-year-old Carl Dahlstrom has signed with Farjestad of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).
Dahlstrom was a second-round draft pick (51st overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013. However, he did not join the team until the 2015-16 season, where he was sent to the AHL. Dahlstrom played his first games in the NHL with the Blackhawks in the 2017-18 season.
After being one of the last cuts at camp in 2019, Dahlstrom was placed on waivers by Chicago and picked up by the Winnipeg Jets. He played 15 games for Winnipeg before being traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in the exchange that brought Paul Stastny to Winnipeg.
After the 2020-21 season, Dahlstrom signed with the Maple Leafs as a free agent, where he has been ever since. He played just three games with the Maple Leafs, spending the rest of his time with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
Dahlstrom's new contract with Farjestad is for three years, something he said was a big factor in his decision.
"It's nice to have stability - to know that you will be in one place for a long time. It's easy to feel unsettled over there (in North America) because there can be a trade or you could be put on waivers. I got to experience both things over there. Therefore, it will be nice, not only for my partner and my dog but also for myself, to know where we will be."
