The Washington Capitals haven't been at their best to start 2023-24, but ahead of their matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs, one of their biggest stars had a shot to take at Toronto.
Old friends
When asked about the matchup, veteran center Evgeny Kuznetsov had this to say about young Maple Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov.
I guess now we have to try a little more harder," he laughs. "Nah, man, it's all jokes. But we're very close friends with him and his family.
This comes after learning Samsonov won't start this game in favour of young, emerging Joseph Woll, who is seemingly taking the job from Samsonov early in the season.
A struggling team
As for the Capitals, goals have been hard to come by already this year, as they have managed just five goals in four games, and unless veterans like Kuznetsov can get going, this will be a lost year for Washington.
These two will do battle as a part of the NHL's Frozen Frenzy, a night where all 32 teams will be on the ice, and no matter who's in net, this is always a fun matchup when Ovechkin does battle against Matthews and the Maple Leafs.
