Like every other coach working in big-market teams, his decisions are being evaluated by thousands of fans.
Yesterday, Keefe was criticized by Kris Versteeg, a former player for the Maple Leafs, during a conversation with JD Bunkis on Sportsnet 590's The Fan.
According to him, Keefe won't get the most out of his players by the way he's currently using them.
His statement was targeted towards Max Domi's use in the first three games of the season. The newcomer in Toronto was only on the ice for an average of 12 minutes.
Versteeg mentioned that Domi will need more than that to have an impact.
Here's what he said:
With a team as packed as the Leafs, decisions need to be made. Do you want to give some of Mitch Marner's or William Nylander's time on the ice to Max Domi?
If the stars on the team play well, there's no reason to bench them instead of Max Domi.
However, if there's an injury, or Domi starts playing incredibly well in the 11-12 minutes he's on the ice, he could force Keefe's hand to send him out there more often.
Meanwhile, it's hard to conceive that Domi will have more ice-time than the Leafs' big guns.
