The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for a new goal song once again. During last night's game against the Minnesota Wild announcer Joe Bowen had a suggestion for what the Maple Leafs should do.
In the video, Bowen suggests a new strategy for the goal song. He suggests that each player should be able to pick their own goal song. Similar to a walk-up song in baseball the Maple Leafs players would each have a song for themselves and the fans when they score.
The Maple Leafs would be the second team in the NHL to do this following in the successful footsteps of another team.
The Buffalo Sabres were the first team in the NHL to come up with the idea of personal goal songs. After complaints about their goal song being stale, their solution was for each player to get their own. Each season the player picks a new song to represent them. This year's selections were a big hit with both Sabres and NHL fans.
It allows the players to show some personality in a sport where players are often seen as too stoic or laid back. It also lets the fans get involved as well as this year Jeff Skinner is using Breaking Free from High School Musical which was requested by some fans.
The Maple Leafs could solve their goal song issue with this solution and make every goal a fun experience for players and fans to connect. It would also be awesome to see what songs each player would pick to hear during a game.
