Major Update Regarding Top Leafs Prospect Rodion Amirov's Health Status
There appears to be some positive news regarding the future of Rodion Amirov.
Positive Developments In Amirov's Statius
According to an interview in Russian sports outlet Sport Express, Rinat Bashirov, General Director of Salavat Yulaev, Amirov's KHL team.
Amirov was diagnosed with a brain tumor in February 2022, and has been out of action since, receiving treatment in Russia.
Positive News For Amirov Out Of Russia
According to Bashirov, who has been monitoring Amirov during his treatment, he gives a positive update in his condition, and believes that a return to the ice is possible.
"He continues treatment, there is a positive trend. He has full confidence that he will go on the ice. Of course, if Rodion played for us, it would be a completely different team. I can tell that he has matured a lot. He continues to work, his parents and we support him very much, and, of course, Rodion took the signing of the contract positively. We pray for him. I believe that he will return, we are all waiting for him."
There have been questions over the timeline of Amirov's potential return to Hockey, or if it will happen at all. Kyle Cushman of TheScore indicated that Amirov, who was signed to a one-year loan deal from Toronto to Salavat Yulaev, may be unlikely to play again.
Bashirov's comments are more hopeful for Amirov's return, but are just as much speculative and not a matter of fact. As it stands, no indications have been made on if and when Amirov could play again.
Amirov signed an Entry-Level Contract with the Maple Leafs in 2021. Amirov was selected 15th Overall by Toronto in the 2020 NHL Draft.
