The NHL has seen many warriors over the years, but with the game moving away from the physicality and towards the skill, time is coming up for many, with one former Maple Leaf in particular likely done.

Wayne Simmonds

One player who has fit the role of enforcer well throughout his career is Wayne Simmonds, who has spent the last three seasons of his career with Toronto, tallying 27 points over that time.

In his career, Simmonds has racked up 1,037 games played, with 263 goals and 526 points over that time, with the most notable number being his 1,313 minutes spent in the penalty box.

Toronto career done

After the Leafs signed Ryan Reaves, it became evident that his career in Toronto was over, but now as we head into August, he remains a UFA, and after just 2 points a season ago, it appears that his career could be completely over at the highest level.

He wasn't quite able to achieve Stanley Cup glory throughout his career, but Simmonds, whenever he's done will be remembered as a respected, tough, versatile player, and if it is the end, there's no doubting he will have some type of role in hockey for years to come.
