Versatile Toronto Maple Leafs Forward Alex Kerfoot looks to be joining a new NHL team during free agency in July.
The controversial winger/center has an expiring contract, and the perpetually cap-strapped Leafs are looking to move on from the controversial Canadian.
Kerfoot is coming off of a down season in Toronto, with only 10 goals and 32 points in 82 games this season.
This left Maple Leafs fans extremely disappointed with his inconsistency, as Kerfoot had what many considered to be a breakout season in the 2021/2022 season with a career-high 51 points.
Despite the subpar season, Kerfoot may look for a raise this offseason, which is untenable for new Leafs GM Brad Treliving.
Where Could Kerfoot Sign?
The Vancouver Canucks have been rumored as a potential destination for the BC born and bred Kerfoot, as he could follow another former Leaf to Vancouver in Ilya Mikheyev.
NHL Insider spoke about his possibility on popular Vancouver sports show Sekeres and Price
As an unrestricted free agent, I would think that Alex Kerfoot would be high on [Vancouver's] list. You know, at times, he was frustrating. He was a frustrating player for the Maple Leafs, but maybe more from a fan perspective because you could see the skill-set and you could see the want. At times , you could see the execution. It just seemed to be inconsistent, but he is a very versatile and serviceable forward. They played him in all situations in Toronto -top line, 2nd line center, he can play wing. I Can't imagine with the fact that he's a BC boy that the Vancouver Canucks wouldn't have him on the high on their radar."
Maybe Kerfoot takes a hometown discount to return to his home province this July 1st.
