With the recent firing of now former Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas, many thought to believe that his partner in crime and bench boss, Sheldon Keefe, would be next out the door quickly thereafter. Well, simply put, that has not been the case.

As newly appointed general manager Brad Treliving had mentioned, he wanted to get to know Keefe and discuss the team's future before coming to any conclusion about the head coach. Now that weeks have passed, no one is truly certain of the current status of Keefe's future in Toronto.

Reportedly recently, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman has now provided insight in regards to the current situation with any form of a decision being delayed.

"I had heard this was going to get sorted out early this week, now I'm not even convinced it will be," Friedman stated on the 32 Thoughts Podcast.

As many believed, it was under the impression that Treliving would have sorted this out much sooner than it has unfolded in current time. On top of this, Friedman added he doesn't believe that the Leafs have sat down with any other candidates and are not shopping for a new head coach for next season.

"One thing I've tried to look into is, is Toronto interviewing anybody else?" said Friedman. "I can't find anyone. I think the answer is no, they haven't talked to anybody else."

Is this a sign for Sheldon Keefe to remain as the Leafs head coach?

It appears that this may be an indicator towards the security of Keefe's head coaching job, with all signs currently pointing in that direction. His status seems to still be up in the air but it looks as if right now, Keefe may end up keeping his job. The longer the conversations go on and the offseason progresses, the more likely it is that we see Keefe return behind the bench for his fifth season as the Maple Leafs head coach.
