The Toronto Maple Leafs brought up defenseman Mikko Kokkonen from the Marlies ahead of their last matchup against the Nashville Predators.
The defenseman took part in the warmups with his team, indicating a potential last-minute decision regarding their defensive lineup.
The Leafs are currently coping with many injuries to key players like John Klingberg, Timothy Liljegren, and Mark Giordano.
William Lagesson, who stepped up in Giordano's absence, has been sick for a week and hasn't played since December 2nd, making him unavailable for the last game. It seems that after the morning practice, head coach Sheldon Keefe realized one of his defensemen might need a rest, leading to Kokkonen's recall.
Kokkonen, drafted in 2019 by the Leafs at the third round, scored two goals and four points in 17 games with the Marlies this season.
