Morgan Rielly Takes a Stand Against Gary Bettman
Yesterday, Gary Bettman and the NHL decided to go against progressive values and remove a significant political element from hockey.
NHL Removes Specialty Jerseys
The NHL has officially removed the special warm-up jerseys. We will no longer see Pride jerseys, Military jerseys, Indigenous jerseys, and Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys.
This decision represents a major setback for the NHL. They are not moving in the right direction with this choice.
Now, even players have spoken out about this decision.
Rielly Takes a Stand
Morgan Rielly of the Maple Leafs has voiced his opinion on this decision.
"With issues like these, with movements like these, I will support them no matter what, whether we wear jerseys or not... That support will not waver." #Leafs
At least the players understand this, and it is reassuring to see that even if Bettman removes the jerseys, they will continue to support the causes.
While refocusing attention on the game is a positive aspect, turning a blind eye to the issues of today only highlights Bettman's selfishness.
