Recent reports have emerged showing that the Leafs are heavily pursuing Patrick Kane.

Leafs Chasing Kane

Reports have recently surfaced stating that the Toronto Maple Leafs are chasing Patrick Kane as their perfect top-line player.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have emerged as strong contenders in the pursuit of free agent Patrick Kane, with reports indicating a high level of interest in the talented forward.

Prominent hockey figure Dave Poulin, speaking on Toronto's TSN 1050 radio station, emphasized that if Kane's hip condition is resolved as expected, the Maple Leafs should be at the forefront of potential suitors.

This would be massive for the Leafs if they could land Kane. Primarily a right-wing, Kane shoots with his left hand so there is a solid chance that the Leafs could have him move over to the left wing to mesh with fellow American Auston Matthews and fellow London Knight Mitch Marner.

How Can They Make This Happen?

The biggest hurdle in getting Kane to sign with Toronto is not convincing Kane but rather getting enough cap space to offer Kane a fair contract. Sure the Leafs could trade TJ Brodie and give Kane a $2 million contract but that definitely would not be enough. The money talks.

If the Leafs were to offload William Nylander, there is a right-wing opening on the second line next to John Tavares, and with Nylander departing, it would open up $2 million more than if Brodie were to depart.

The prospect of playing with Matthews and Marner in and of itself would be enough to convince many players to come to Toronto but especially considering Kane's ties to the top line, he could emerge as the perfect player for the Leafs.

While Kane will not sign for a while, this works in the Leafs' favor as it allows them to make the moves necessary to land Kane.
