A new set of rumors from HockeyBuzz.com has given Maple Leafs fans a new player to watch. According to HockeyBuzz rumors insider Eklund the Maple Leafs and a few other teams have checked in on Sean Walker.
With Sean Walker now available to the Maple Leafs he might be the top option to replace the injured John Klingberg if he is absent for the foreseeable future.
Sean Walker is in his first season with the Philadelphia Flyers and having a bit of a breakout at age 29. In 5 seasons with the Kings before heading to Philly Walker had a career-high of 24 points in a season with reliable defensive numbers on always-competitive Kings teams.
Now in Philadelphia Walker has found a bit of offensive flair. In 23 games Walker has 11 points and is a plus-six. With Walker in the last year of his contract, the Flyers could look to move him to get assets back. As of now, Walker wouldn't be expensive to extend either if the Maple Leafs wanted to do a sign and trade.
One thing is clear the Maple Leafs need to make some upgrades on defense. Walker could be a good, easy-to-trade-for player, with a low cap hit. All of these things should be exactly what the Maple Leafs look for in a trade target.
