Jake McCabe's injury didn't leave the Leafs any choice: they had to call up a defenseman from the Marlies.
They opted for William Lagesson, who signed a one-year, two-way deal at the league's minimum wage this summer.
The 27-year-old defenseman will play his first game in the Leafs' uniform tonight, against the Nashville Predators.

Lagesson isn't the shiniest player on the ice. He's not the fastest and not the most talented, but he can give good minutes to the Leafs' third pair.
With Klingberg, he should have a more defensive role. While he's not Luke Schenn, he still brings a physical presence to the blue line, allowing Klingberg to bring up his offensive game.
Last season, Lagesson scored 32 points in 65 AHL games with the Chicago Wolves.
In 60 NHL games, he only managed to score seven points and hasn't scored a goal yet.
He'll try to leave a good impression in his first NHL game since April 27, 2022, with the Montreal Canadiens.
