Reporter believes this Canadian team should target William Nylander

The Toronto Maple Leafs have begun extension talks with star winger William Nylander, but with things not going forward like both sides expected, it appears he could be had via trade, or free agency at the end of this season.

A star in the making

At 27-years old, Nylander has been a key piece of the Maple Leafs for years, taking major steps forward over the past few years, tallying 80 and 87 points over the past few years.

However, the extension number he's reportedly looking at is considered too rich for a cash-strapped Maple Leafs team, and now, he's been all over the rumour mill, with several teams looking into acquiring him.

A Canadian rival

Any team around the league would be lucky to land a 27-year old who's scored 74 goals over the past two years, and according to one Montreal Canadiens reporter, the Habs are one team that should be after him.

According to Tony Mariano, the Canadiens should be looking into Nylander, and while he would be one of the oldest members of this rebuilding team, he would immediately be a key piece of their top line, and would help speed their rebuild up alongside Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki and this talented young team.
