The Toronto Maple Leafs are no stranger to the spotlight given how big of a fanbase and expectations they have, but their latest move is drawing more pointed criticism.

An unsavoury move from Toronto

Recently, despite serving as the backup in the Maple Leafs playoff series against the Florida Panthers, Matt Murray was placed on LTIR, saving the Maple Leafs over $6 million against the salary cap.

Unfortunately for the Ottawa Senators, this move effected them as well, but they haven't come away from this in quite as good a position as Toronto, and it has enraged their fanbase.

Rules for some, but not others?

Due to the Senators retaining 25% of Murray's salary in the trade with Toronto, they are unfortunately not able to bury that money on the LTIR, and will now be on the hook for $1.5 million through the 2023-24 season.

Unsurprisingly, this has enraged the Senators fan base, with many accusing the Maple Leafs of cheating, and while it is in the NHL's rules that Toronto can do this, it's understandable the hate the Senators fans are sending their way in the wake of this move.
