The Toronto Maple Leafs need to improve defensively. It doesn't seem like this will happen unless Brad Treliving acquires talented players.

Leafs Need Reinforcements at the Blue Line

We already knew this was going to be an issue before the season started.
The Leafs are struggling defensively. On top of that, Ilya Samsonov isn't performing well.
Competition is fierce in the Atlantic Division, and Toronto will need to be vigilant if things don't turn around soon.
Woll's stellar performance against the Stars gave us hope for the goaltending, but Jake McCabe's injury worsened the situation at the blue line.

Brad Treliving might consider the Columbus Blue Jackets' surplus of defensemen to find what the Maple Leafs require.
With the signings of Damon Severson and Ivan Provorov over the summer, the Blue Jackets appear to be evaluating options to acquire forwards. Andrew Peeke has emerged as one of their primary trade assets.
Peeke would be an excellent addition to the Leafs' blue line.
At 25 years old, 6'3", and weighing 197 lbs, he is a proficient shutdown defenseman entering his prime years. He excels at puck movement and breaking up plays but doesn't contribute significantly in the offensive zone.
