It is known that when those above the GM of an NHL team interfere with the GMs desired moves, it goes over poorly 9 times out of 10. Look at the Vancouver Canucks, their ownership has interfered many times not wanting a rebuild and now the Canucks are strung dry from assets and have a very bleak future.
It has now been reported that throughout Kyle Dubas' 5 years in Toronto, he had moves blocked by upper management. It was also revealed that Shanahan dictated certain moves that Dubas was reluctant to make.
This is quite concerning because this could mean that some of the worst moves Kyle Dubas made throughout his time with Toronto may not have even been his own doing.
It also leads us to wonder what could have been if Dubas had full control. Would the Leafs be better or worse? It would not be out of the realm of possibility that Dubas was held back by Shanahan.
The Leafs have lost many talented players throughout Dubas' time in Toronto and made many questionable moves as well. While the blame for these moves cannot be pitted all on Shanahan, some were most definitely the fault of the egotistical team president.
