Returning against the Maple Leafs, Alexander Ovechkin made it known that although the team has a new vision; to him it's business as usual and threw some shade at them.

In a terrifying scene for the Washington Capitals, franchise icon and captain Alex Ovechkin suffered a nasty leg injury several weeks ago that was expected to put the superstar on the shelf for weeks.

Ever the gladiator, Ovechkin fought his way back to the lineup against the Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Though the team has a brand new identity and a great chance at being a real contender in the playoffs as long as they stay healthy. But to Ovechkin, he thinks it's not a big deal and had some brash comments for his opponents:

"Same team. Different coach."

Alex Ovechkin's Comments Should Kickstart Toronto

Ovechkin's words should strike a chord for the Leafs, as while they do have a different coach, the team is night and day from previous years. Both teams have won a game apiece this season, but it's Toronto's defense that has made a big difference than in years past.

Chris Tanev and Jake McCabe will be entrusted to shut down Ovechkin and company and there's no better duo to do it. Arguably one of the NHL's best pairings, their relentless shot blocking, tenacity, and defensive acumen is crucial to Toronto's success.

Sheldon Keefe in previous seasons would have folded like a house of cards in a hurricane when it comes to defense, and was hesitant to hold anyone accountable.

Not so with Craig Berube, who won't take any complacency within his lineup within his lineup.

There's no doubt that Toronto's new grittiness has been a net positive, and if the team can set the pace with throwing hits and keeping Ovechkin at bay; it should be a victorious night.

Give the Maple Leafs an inch and they'll make a mile out of it, and their perseverance and resiliency this season amidst the litany of injuries is a testament to how much they've changed from last season.

To Alex Ovechkin it's "Different Coach. Same Team."

But for Maple Leafs fans, this team is a lot different and a lot better prepared for the NHL's best than they had in year's past.

Washington and Toronto face-off on Saturday night at Scotiabank Arena; the game is scheduled to start at 7pm ET.
