Auston Matthews spotted on the ice solo ahead of Game 6
The Toronto Maple Leafs won game five against all the odds, and with another must-win game upcoming, Auston Matthews is pushing for a big time return.
Auston Matthews' injury/illness situation has been a major talking point in Toronto over the past few days, and while he's faced criticism, it was obviously bad enough for him to miss game five on the road. While there's not been an update on his situation, there was a positive for Maple Leafs fans on Wednesday, as reporter Dave McCarthy revealed that Matthews was on the ice alone;
Auston Matthews is skating right now at the practice rink by himself along with a couple of skills coaches.
In game two of this series, Matthews was stellar, posting two assists and a goal in a critical 3-2 victory, but he's been dealing with illness since, missing the third period in game four and game five entirely, with TSN's Chris Johnston suggesting that Matthews may be dealing with a little more than illness.
Whether or not his health has improved in the past 24 hours, Matthews taking the ice is certainly a positive, and with game six in Toronto on Thursday night, the entire fan base will be collectively holding their breath over a potential update.
