It was a disappointing result for the Maple Leafs against the New York Islanders on Saturday and head coach Craig Berube didn't hold back on trying to spark his team.

With Toronto coming into a second half of a back to back and without Auston Matthews yet again, the team struggled against the New York Islanders, losing 6-3 and struggling to keep up their defense that has kept them so strong this season.

But it was during the game when Craig Berube decided to have enough of his time and spared them a longer locker room session with his outburst on the Leafs bench.

Colorful words were used, and forward William Nylander has explained just what Berube said:

"Let's go! There's lots of hockey left! Wake the f*** up!"

Berube's Message Falls On Deaf Ears

If Craig Berube wanted to motivate his team, unfortunately for him it didn't work this time. Shut down by a hungry and motivated Islanders team, the Maple Leafs couldn't get much done and looked sloppy a lot of the time.

This isn't the first time that Berube has called a timeout to fire the squad up, and though it has normally gotten the team to create some magic, on Saturday night it was not to be.

Too many giveaways, less forechecking, and giving up too many high danger chances will always hurt a team but especially one like Toronto.

Their typically stout defense was shaky and seemed to get complacent with the puck at times.

The team did get two gorgeous goals from William Nylander, including one where he scored on his back, feeling festive and celebrating via snow angel.

It was merely a consolation though, as Toronto wasn't able to get things going completely and managed to finally lose a game when Bobby McMann scores; the team was previously 16-0-1 when the forward potted a goal.

Hopefully for Toronto and Berube his message will be taken to heart post-game and the players can reflect on what they could have done differently.

With not much turnaround given they have a game on Monday, they need a dominant finish to their season before the Christmas break.

While Berube couldn't spark the team on Saturday night, they can at least hold some pride in knowing they are still atop the Atlantic Division, but they need to ensure they come out swinging against Winnipeg.
