Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube makes an unexpected roster decision of tonight's matchup against the New Jersey Devils.

Craig Berube has had to rework his lineup numerous times this season to account for a continuous piling-up of injured players in the Toronto Maple Leafs roster.

The Leafs have been without multiple top players including Captain Auston Matthews, and now find themselves without his predecessor with the 'C' in John Tavares, who is injured after colliding with defenseman Simon Benoit in practice.

Toronto has confirmed that Tavares is now out week-to-week with a lower-body injury, according to Craig Berube.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have called up top prospect Fraser Minten from the Toronto Marlies, but it doesn't appear that Leafs fans will be seeing the rookie as of yet.

Leafs Leave Minten Out Of Lineup For Game Against Devils

Despite calling up Fraser Minten to the big club, it seems the Toronto Maple Leafs will be without Minten tonight, as Connor Dewar looks poised to take on the spot left open by the loss of Tavares.

Craig Berube said that while he did consider Minten being added to the lineup for tonight, he felt it best to give the 20-year-old a chance to skate first with the team before being thrown back into action.

Max Domi will fill Tavares' role on the second line tonight against former head coach Sheldon Keefe and the New Jersey Devils.

Minten last played in the NHL on Dec. 14th against the Detroit Red Wings. Minten hs played in 11 games this season, netting two goals and four points.

Minten has also played in 16 AHL games for the Toronto Marlies, with five goals and 10 points in that span.

Dewar, in tonight for Toronto, has three points in 27 games this season for the Leafs.
