Did Youtuber Logan Paul leak news of the next Leafs captain?

The Toronto Maple Leafs have undergone a lot of change this summer already. The firing of head coach Sheldon Keefe and hiring of his eventual replacement Craig Berube.

Since being hired as the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs there has been speculation regarding what changes are coming to the team. The most speculated move is a trade involving Mitch Marner. However, today a new YouTube video has potentially leaked a major move involving John Tavares.

Today a new clip was released by Logan Paul with Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews. During the clip, a graphic came up on the screen identifying Auston Matthews as the captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs as he spoke to Logan Paul.

Now this could mean many different things. First of all, Logan Paul and his editing team might have oversimplified and called him captain instead of assistant captain. The other major possibility is that the Toronto Maple Leafs are naming Auston Matthews the new captain of the team.

With a new head coach coming in Craig Berube a new captain could make sense as well. With John Tavares heading into the final year of his deal naming a new captain to provide a stable future would fit as well. However, this feels like something the Toronto Maple Leafs would announce as they make the decision and tell Auston Matthews.

So as of now the Toronto Maple Leafs have not made Auston Matthews the captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs but Logan Paul and his editiing team could have just been predicting the future.
