The Philadelphia Flyers have set the asking price for highly-coveted center Scott Laughton per a new report from The Daily Faceoff -- and Toronto might not have the assets.

Scott Laughton has been the center of trade talks over recent weeks, and his name has been linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a long time -- as far back as last season.

But a new report that's emerged from The Daily Faceoff shows: Toronto could potentially lose him to another contender.

The article touched on Laughton's trade value, with NHL Analyst Anthony Di Marco talked about a potential return and what it may take for the Maple Leafs to grab him:

The Leafs project to have a little less than $3 million in cap space by the deadline, so it will take a little cap gymnastics to fit Laughton in at full price ($3 million AAV) for this season and next; given the level of interest in Laughton, I don't think the Flyers will be looking to retain salary on him.

If the return is sufficient enough, perhaps the Flyers would take back a player like David Kampf and the remaining two years on his contract at a $2.4 million cap hit.

But what would a return look like? For Di Marco it involves Fraser Minten at the very least:

As for the actual return, Fraser Minten's name has been tied to the Flyers; given the team's lack of center depth, Minten would check a much-needed box in the pipeline.

Overall, a first-round selection (or prospect/player equivalent) is what the Flyers will want as a starting point - not the end all - in a package for Laughton. The Leafs do not have a first-round pick in 2025, but the Flyers are open to the pick being in 2026, too.

That's a hard sell for Brad Treliving as getting rid of Minten -- who could easily factor into next season's lineup, is one of Toronto's only true exciting prospects.

Di Marco also mentioned how other teams hold a distinct advantage over the Maple Leafs in trade negotiations:

The Jets are a tougher team to read, as one person said to me, so what they're willing to give up is tougher to gauge.

They do have their first-round picks in both 2025 and 2026, so that is what I'd imagine the Flyers would be targeting as the base of any return for Laughton.

Unlike the Leafs, I don't think the Flyers look at any of the Jets' prospects as more valuable than a first-round pick.

For what it's worth, Laughton would solve a lot of issues for the Leafs. In 54 games this season he has 11 goals and 15 assists while adding 113 hits, a 48.6% faceoff win percentage, and can give Craig Berube the grit he desires.

Laughton's also a cheap option down the middle for Toronto, as he only costs $3M for this season and the next -- not a bad bargain for a solid third line center.

Giving up Minten is a lot to ask, but Daniel Briere is not going to let any pieces go for cheap and Laughton clearly is valued highly by both Philly and other contenders which makes a trade that much harder for Toronto.

But the Maple Leafs are in win-now mode, and if giving up a piece of the future means a chance at success and winning it all: Don't you think it's worth the cost for Brad Treliving?
