This summer, the Toronto Maple Leafs have injected some major talent into their blue line, but up front there's been very little movement, with no significant changes to a forward group that lost in round one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Now, one intriguing move has been suggested by Leafs writer Michael Augello, who suggested a reunion with Head Coach Craig Berube in the form of Stanley Cup winner Sammy Blais.
On paper, the team already have someone to fill that role in Ryan Reaves, but the 2023/24 season showed that he's not quite the same player he once was, and on a cheap deal, Blais would be a significant upgrade to this fourth line.
Blais was a key for the St. Louis Blues during their 2019 Stanley Cup run under Craig Berube, with the grinding winger netting just 4 points in 32 games while providing the team the physical threat that is needed on the back end.
After returning to St. Louis two years ago, Blais has remained solid, and at 28-years of age he's still got plenty of gas left in the tank, and on a PTO, there would be no harm in the Maple Leafs rolling the dice on a player familiar to their new Head Coach.
