It's been a rough year for the Anaheim Ducks. Though they have a bright future ahead of them, they are still a couple of years away from finding the success they had decades ago. Cutter Gauthier and Bennett Sennecke are set to lead the new crop into a future dynasty for years to come.
But one name that won't be sticking around to see it is former Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer, who was placed on waivers by the Ducks on Tuesday. NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed the report on his X account:
James Reimer was struggling this season and only played in two games for the Ducks, going 0-2-0 with a 4.50 GAA and .864 SV% as he never really found a spot as the third-stringer even in the wake of John Gibson's absence. He signed with Buffalo this offseason before being cut and then ironically, being claimed off waivers by Anaheim.
A 15-year veteran, Reimer was a mainstay for the Maple Leafs during his time in Toronto and went 85-76-23 over those six seasons. He also recorded a 2.83 GAA and a .914 SV% as he was a very solid netminder during some rough Toronto years.
He's also responsible for some ridiculous highlight reel saves as well:
Reimer is more than likely going to be claimed by a team looking to add a solid veteran to their goaltending, and he's only $1M so he would come relatively cheap. His career numbers are solid, going 215-179-63 with a 2.89 GAA and .910 SV%; he hasn't been spectacular, but he's made a name for himself over his career.
It remains to be seen if Reimer can find another job in the NHL or if the Ducks are going to send him down to San Diego so he can help the struggling Gulls get back on track.
