Goaltender Ilya Samsonov to sign with the Vegas Golden Knights
The former Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov has reportedly signed a one-year contract with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Samsonov, 27, had a rough season with the Maple Leafs in 2023-24. At some point, he was even sent down to the AHL for his poor performances. However, the Golden Knights decided to give a shot to the free agent goalie with a one-year deal in Vegas.
No official announcement has been released yet, but multiple sources confirm that development:
"BREAKING: Now former Leafs goalie Ilya Samsonov is signing with the Vegas Golden Knights on a 1-year "prove it" deal. "
In the past playoffs, Samsonov, with the Leafs, performed underwhelmingly. He couldn't stop the Bruins, and was replaced by Joseph Woll for a few games. Unfortunately' Woll' njury forced Sheldon Keefe to bring out Samsonov again, and they lost the seventh game.
Samsonov will need to prove that he can maintain a NHL-level if he wants to remain in the League.
However, with the Golden Knights' impressive defensive unit, his job could be much more easier than it was in Toronto.
Details will follow.
