Insider Chris Johnston Shares Major Injury Update on John Tavares and Matthew Knies
NHL insider Chris Johnston reveals a major update on injured Leafs stars John Tavares and Matthew Knies.
Johnston revealed major updates on the status of Tavares and Knies, both of whom are unknown when they will be back in the Leafs lineup, with the new report providing some clarity.
Tavares has been out since last week after an injury suffered in practice.
Knies exited Toronto's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second period, having not returned with an upper-body injury.
Johnston's new report reveals details as to when Tavares and Knies may be back for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Updates On Status Of John Tavares, Matthew Knies
Chris Johnston reveals that Knies is expected to be back soon, with his injury appearing to not be serious.
The early word on Matthew Knies, who left Wednesday night's game against Columbus with an upper-body injury, is positive.
His return is expected to be a matter of days, not weeks, so he shouldn't be sidelined for long.
On Tavares, his return is a bit more murky, with it unclear his return date.
As for John Tavares, who sustained a lower-body injury during practice last week, he has not resumed skating yet.
While he's progressing well, there's still some uncertainty around when he'll return, and he won't be close to playing until he's back on the ice with his teammates.
Nick Alberga of 'The Leafs Nation' reported earlier that Knies is out with a knee-injury, and that Knies injury is not a serious one.
The news of Knies being back in the short-term is a positive for the Leafs, but with a negative in the fact Tavares returning is still clouded with questions.
Toronto, needing the team at full health, will be happy to have Knies back in the lineup soon, perhaps by the start of February or the end of January.
It will be a necessity to have both players going forward, and for now where the Knies situation seems it will sort itself out, John Tavares remains an uncertain questions for how long Toronto will be without him.
