Insider Johnston hints at Leafs president Brendan Shanahan's firing
The insider Chris Johnston talked about the Toronto Maple Leafs' President of Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan and the possibility to see him lose his job.
The Leafs once again failed to reach the second round of the playoffs, getting eliminated in the first round for the seventh time in the past eight seasons.
All point to the fact that some heads are going to roll in Toronto. Players, coaches and members of the management team could all pay for the Leafs' struggles. A new development suggests that Brendan Shanahan could be the first one to be let go.
In a new paper for The Athletic, the insider Chris Johnston hinted at that scenario:
"Under the guidance of three different GMs and two head coaches, Shanahan's Leafs have steadfastly refused to alter the plan in response to the familiar and premature end they keep meeting every postseason. They've basically played the longest, most stubborn roster-building game imaginable while endeavoring to eliminate organizational shortcuts.
Surely, that game is now over.
Pretty much everything should be on the table after another season ended too soon at TD Garden."
Shanahan was hired 10 years ago as the Leafs' President, and only reached the second round once.
At some point, players can't do all the job. It's up to the President to make sure he gives his team all the tools they need to succeed.
Do you think Brendan Shanahan will lose his job as President of Hockey Operations of the Toronto Maple Leafs?
