Insider reveals amazing announcement for Maple Leafs Auston Matthews
Auston Matthews 2023-24 season was one for the record books, and now it appears as though he may be recognized in a big way for his incredible play.
If Auston Matthews season in 2021-22 was great when he won the Hart Trophy, then his 2023-24 performance may have been even better, as he tallied an NHL high 69 goals and added 38 assists to end the year with 107 points. Unfortunately, the league officially snubbed him for the Hart Trophy race, opting for Nikita Kucherov, Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon, but Frank Seravalli has some fantastic news for Maple Leafs fans.
2024 Ted Lindsay Award finalists for most outstanding player as voted by his peers at @NHLPA: Nikita Kucherov (TBL), Nathan MacKinnon (COL) and Auston Matthews (TOR).
For the most part, this award is seen as much more prestigious than the Hart Trophy, as it recognizes the NHL's Most Outstanding regular season player, as voted on by the players peers.
Unsurprisingly, Matthews' competition for this award is MacKinnon and Kucherov, who both had outstanding years, but given what Matthews did with his goal scoring consistency, it's hard to deny that he's very deserving of the award.
There's no doubt plenty of competition for the award, as MacKinnon and Kucherov were stellar all season long, so now we wait patiently and see if Matthews is rewarded for his incredible, record breaking run in 2023-24.
