The NHL Draft Lottery is a bit of a complicated process. Each team is given a certain number of lottery combinations. This is based on their percentage chance of winning the lottery. Then there are two drawings the first is for the first overall selection and the second is of course for pick two.
The San Jose Sharks won the first lottery drawing securing them the first overall selection and likely Macklin Celebrini. Then it was time for the second drawing for pick two. The problem was the San Jose Sharks lottery combination came up again on the second draw. This forced the NHL to do a third drawing which miraculously landed on the Sharks once again. Finally, on the fourth attempt, the Chicago Blackhawks were given the second overall pick.
This is the first time in the history of the NHL Draft Lottery that this situation even occurred once. Generally, a team wins the first pick and then a completely new team's combination comes up. This year the San Jose Sharks must've had incredible luck and will now select first overall as a result.
The presumptive first overall pick is Bay Arena native Macklin Celebrini who played for the Jr. Sharks growing up.
With the connection to the area and the fact that Macklin Celebrini has been the top-ranked player all season it is safe to assume he ends up a San Jose Shark at this point.
