A new report indicates that despite Luke Schenn being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, it may not be his final outcome come deadline's end.

Yesterday, Schenn was traded from the lowly Nashville Predators to the Pittsburgh Penguins along with forward Tommy Novak for Michael Bunting and a 2026 fourth-round pick.

It was a move which confused some over the reasoning by Penguins, like the Predators out of the playoff picture, suddenly emerging as buyers in the trade market.

A new report adds further context to the move, with it now being reported that Schenn may not have a permanent home just yet with less than 48 hours until the NHL's Trade Deadline.

NHL insider Chris Johnston has reported that with Schenn's trade to the Penguins, it's still possible Pittsburgh could flip the defenseman out elsewhere by the deadline, although nothing is certain yet on a potential second deal.

Could The Toronto Maple Leafs Take A Shot At Uniting The Schenn Brothers?

With Luke Schenn a potential trade option despite a move to Pittsburgh, a team could look to pair Luke with his younger brother, Brayden, linked heavily in trade rumors, including to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Luke is no stranger to Toronto, having been drafted fifth overall by the Leafs in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, where he spent his first four seasons in the league between 2008-2012, and a 15-game stint a decade later in 2023.

This season, Luke has one goal and four assists but adds his usual physicality and toughness, with 76 blocks and 228 hits while offering some solid shutdown defense for a poor Nashville squad.

Toronto will surely have competition for Brayden Schenn, although they are linked the strongest.

The New Jersey Devils were linked previously to Schenn, according to James Nichols of 'New Jersey Hockey Now' with the cost for Schenn appearing "too much" for the Devils, a move which may have them reconsidering with a season-ending injury to star center Jack Hughes.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are still the most popular linked team to Brayden Schenn, and one key to his acquisition could come in reuniting his brother to pair the two together as teammates in Toronto.

At least we'll know by Friday.
