Jacob Markstrom linked to three teams including the Maple Leafs
The Calgary Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom was linked to three teams including the Toronto Maple Leafs by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.
Markstrom has been involved in a lot of trade rumors in recent years, and now, it looks like he could finally change teams this summer.
With his no-movement clause, Markstrom has a big say in where he ends up. After recent reports revealed that Markstrom would be ready to lift his clause to join the New Jersey Devils, Elliotte Friedman added that "there's definitely something going on", but that the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators are also interested:
"32 Thoughts Podcast: Elliotte says 'there's definitely something going on' between Calgary and New Jersey on Markstrom. Calgary is trying to keep things quiet. Elliotte goes on to mention Toronto and Ottawa as also interested."
The Maple Leafs have two promising goaltenders in Joseph Woll and Dennis Hildeby. Acquiring Markstrom by trade could be a great short-term solution, as his $6 million AAV contract ends after the 2025-26 season.
Brad Treliving must consider all his options going into the draft and free agency. He has valuable trade assets and some money to move around, but he also has free agents to deal with, and the whole Mitch Marner situation.
At the end of the day, Markstrom will decide where he wants to go. If nothing works out for him or the Flames, he'll stay in Calgary and the Flames could move either Dan Vladar or Dustin Wolf.
