Toronto Maple Leafs Goaltender Joseph Woll Gets the Nod From Head Coach Sheldon Keefe: He Will Face the Washington Capitals Tonight
Sheldon Keefe announced that Woll will play tonight, as the Leafs face the Washington Capitals. Alex Ovechkin's team will try to extend their winning streak to four, as the Leafs will look to bounce back from two straight losses.
Woll returned from a high-ankle sprain that kept his sidelined for three months a few weeks ago and his performances haven't been ideal. He lost his last two games, both against the Boston Bruins, allowing four goals on each occasion, with .840 and .852 save percentages.
We already knew that Sheldon Keefe carefully planned Woll's return after his injury, and used Samsonov for most games lately. In fact, Woll's last game was on March 7th, almost two weeks ago.
The goalie Joseph Woll recently opened up in an interview with Dave McCarthy on NHL.com.
Joseph Woll Opens Up On His Return From Injury And Learning From Ilya Samsonov In an Interview With Dave McCarthy
On NHL.com, an interview with Joseph Woll made by Dave McCarthy was published and the goaltender opened up on interesting topics. Among other things, he shared how he feels about getting back on the ice and learning from Ilya Samsonov.
On getting tonight's start after a tough return from injury:
"I'm excited to get a good chance to get back in the net. I feel like this last week-and-a-half or so has been good for me -- learning how to be a good teammate when I'm not playing and supporting the team, and then also giving me time to step back and be able to reset and just focus on some stuff."
On learning from teammate Ilya Samsonov:
"It's unbelievable being able to watch him, and some of the saves he's been making recently are unbelievable. He has me jumping up and down on the bench and fired up, so my goal is to be able to help the team as well as he has been."
