The Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano left last night's game halfway through the first period after a dangerous collision with the boards.

The Leafs entered the offensive zone with the puck and Giordano came wheeling in to support the rush to the net. He had a great scoring chance and as the goalie made the save, he harshly fell onto the boards, with his neck and head absorbing most of the shock.

Coach Sheldon Keefe shared an update on his condition.

Sheldon Keefe Announces Head Injury to Mark Giordano

In his post-game press conference, Keefe revealed that Giordano has a head injury, but didn't have further details to share.

"Sheldon Keefe says Mark Giordano has a head injury and doesn't know the extent of it. "

With the Leafs' recent acquisition of Ilya Lyubushkin from the Anaheim Ducks, it was suggested on X that he will replace Giordano, who could be out for the rest of the season.

Giordano's contract is set to expire at the end of the season. At 40 years old, many people believe he will retire soon. Unfortunately, we might have already seen his last NHL game.

"Let's hope Mark Giordano can return this year as it's likely his last season."

I don't think Lyubushkin was brought in to be Rielly's partner.

He was brought in to replace Giordano. I think there's a chance that was his last game in the NHL unfortunately.

There are options for RD who have term.

Borgen 27 2.7x1
Larsson 31 4x1
Andersson 27 4.5x2
+ More!"

The Maple Leafs have options if they want to add further reinforcements at the blue line. In Seattle, defenseman Will Borgen would be a great fit. We can also imagine the Leafs being interested in Kraken's center Yanni Gourde...

As we follow the Maple Leafs ahead of the deadline, we'll keep an eye on Mark Giordano's health and hope for a speedy recovery.

As seen on Maple Leafs Daily - Sheldon Keefe provides highly anticipated update on Giordano after scary collision
