Kyle Dubas shares his biggest regret as Maple Leafs GM
Kyle Dubas had a solid run at the helm of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and 15 months after leaving, he's now shared his biggest regret.
The Maple Leafs are looking to take a step forward under Brad Treliving and Craig Berube, but recently it was former General Manager Kyle Dubas that spoke publicly about his time in Toronto.
While some great things happened during his tenure, he just couldn't get this team over the hill, and now he's opened up on what he believes was his biggest failure as a Maple Leaf;
The biggest mistake I think I've made in my whole time here has been not taking care of the three incumbent contracts. Nylander was up, Marner and Matthews could have been done as July 1 extensions.
Since his departure, both William Nylander and Auston Matthews have inked massive deals to keep them in Toronto for years to come, but it's now the Mitch Marner deal that is lingering over the head of this organization.
Whether or not he re-signs, leaves as a free agent or gets traded will define this organization for years to come, but all of that could have been avoided if Dubas had taken care of him.
Now, the team have made some good moves and some terrible moves under new GM Brad Treliving, with Dubas taking care of the rival Pittsburgh Penguins as GM and President of Hockey Operations as he looks to build them into a Stanley Cup contender one final time under Sidney Crosby.
