The Toronto Maple Leafs have been looking to acquire a goalie to go along with Joseph Woll heading into next season. Many fans were hoping the answer would be proven starter Jacob Markstrom however that dream was dashed after he was traded to the New Jersey Devils earlier this week.
With that plan put to the side the Toronto Maple Leafs and Brad Treliving now need a plan B.
A new report from Elliotte Friedman during 32 Thoughts has linked the Maple Leafs to two potential options Anthony Stolarz and Laurent Brossoit.
When Elliotte Friedman says an Anthony Stolarz or Laurent Brossoit type piece he means a high-end backup goalie. Both players have never been the main starter for a team in their careers.
However, both have shown the ability to fill in for long stretches when needed. This likely means that the Toronto Maple Leafs expect to go into next season with Joseph Woll as their starter.
As NHL Free Agency approaches quickly it remains to be seen what will happen with the Toronto Maple Leafs goaltending situation. One thing is for certain Brad Treliving and his staff need to be sure of the goalie they bring in to go with Joseph Woll.
