The renowned insider Pierre LeBrun reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs and Joel Edmundson have mutual interest in negotiating for a contract extension.

Despite yesterday's news about how Edmundson wanted to test the free agent market this summer, a new development stated the contrary.

In a new paper for The Athletic, LeBrun said that there is mutual interest from Edmundson and the Leafs to make a deal.

According to him, Edmundson loved playing for the new head coach Craig Berube with the St. Louis Blues back in 2019, when they won the Stanley Cup together.

Here's what LeBrun wrote:

"My understanding is there's mutual interest from the team and the player in getting an extension done. Edmundson enjoyed playing for new Leafs coach Craig Berube with the St. Louis Blues, winning a Cup together in 2019, and that's a factor to be sure."

He also shared that the Leafs have a lot of things to juggle with on their roster and the deal with Edmundson isn't a sure thing just yet:

"The Leafs are juggling a lot, roster-wise. So it's no slam dunk that a deal with Edmundson gets done."

It's interesting to note that Edmundson's agent, Darren Ferris, also represents Mitch Marner.

Ferris and Treliving will no doubt meet a few times in the coming weeks.
