Maple Leafs Connor Dewar files for arbitration
After failing to agree on a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Connor Dewar has filed for arbitration.
Prior to the July 1st free agency, the Leafs, along with other teams, tendered qualifying offers to several of their players, and Connor Dewar was one of them.
Unfortunately for the Leafs, Dewar was unhappy with that qualifying offer, and elected to file for arbitrartion.
The Leafs had to extend a qualifying offer to Dewar in order to retain his rights. It was then upto Dewar to either accept the offer, or elect to take it to an arbitrator. Dewar rejected the contract offer. Both sides will now plead their case, and it will ultimately be up to the arbitrator to decide what salary is fair for Dewar.
BREAKING: Connor Dewar has filed for arbitration.
His hearing will fall between July 20th and August 4th.
It's important to note that If the Leafs decline the salary decision made by the arbitrator, then Dewar will become a UFA and will be free to sign with any NHL team.
