Maple Leafs officially respond to trade rumour sending Mitch Marner to Utah
The Toronto Maple Leafs may be looking to trade Mitch Marner this summer, but after rumours emerged of a deal with Utah, they've since shut that down.
After a disappointing playoff performance that saw the team flame out in just one series, the Toronto Maple Leafs seem intent on making a big move, and it appears Mitch Marner may be the player on the move. According to many reports, the team are ready to take trade offers on their star winger, with the newly formed Utah Hockey Club among those interested.
That has been a rumour swirling for quite some time, to the point where both the Maple Leafs and Marner's camp have now addressed the situation through David Pagnotta.
On the Mitch Marner to Utah report/rumor that's out there: I reached out to the Marner camp who told me it is «100% not true.» A Leafs team rep also poured cold water all over the report calling it completely untrue.
Unsurprisingly, both parties quickly shut down the rumour, revealing that it is '100% not true', but given the assets of the Utah Hockey Club and their desire to land a star, the interest may be genuine.
With Marner excelling in the regular season, it makes sense that most teams in the NHL would have some level of interest, and now all we can do is wait to see whether he's moved in a deal that could shake up the landscape of the league.
