Yesterday, the Toronto Maple Leafs gave a proper beating to the Washington Capitals. In the 4-1 win, the Leafs' leaders, including Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Domi, Bertuzzi, and Rielly, took charge and combined for a total of 9 points.
Alex Ovechkin also performed well, shooting 14 pucks at the net and scoring his first goal of the season.
The Marlies were also in action. They won 3-2 against the Milwaukee Admirals, the Nashville Predators' affiliate.
The Marlies may have won the game, but they lost an important member of their team.
Halfway through the third period, Ryan Tverberg was on the receiving end of a major hit that sent him into the boards.
He was in a vulnerable position, and in what many people call the "danger zone," two to three feet from the boards.
He needed help to leave the ice and didn't return to the game. Anthony Angello, who delivered the hit, received only a minor penalty.
After the game, Marlies head coach John Gruden expressed hope that the injury is minor and that Tverberg will return to the lineup soon.
More tests will be done in the coming days.
